New Zealand Amateur Championship :: New Zealand Mens Amateur

Australian golfer Kurt Carlson has drawn level with overnight leader Travis O’Connell in the clubhouse lead midway through the second round of the New Zealand Strokeplay Championships in Palmerston North today.

Carlson fired his second consecutive four-under par 68 this morning for a 36-hole total of 136, eight-under par at the Manawatu Golf Club.

He shares the early clubhouse lead with O’Connell, who managed an even-par 72 in the second round after his superb 64 yesterday.

O’Connell was like many of the morning players, who struggled to match yesterday’s birdie blitz at the Hokowhitu course despite a second day of benign conditions.

The best of the morning players was Paraparaumu Beach player Ryan Leslie, who shot six birdies including four in the final five holes in his five-under par 67. He is currently in third place of the completed morning rounds with five under 139.

Most of the leading scorers are in the afternoon field fighting for the top 72 places to make the cut for the final 36 holes.
