UGANDA Golf Club’s drive to attract youngsters to the game climaxed last weekend when Susan Namuli, Diana Ssali and Pamela Opio carded 26 gross to win the Youth Launch tournament at the Kitante course.
The winners of the event, played over three holes, beat Martha Okumu, Yvette Kabagambe and Joan Anyango at 27.
Over 40 other youngsters had the feel of the course after five days of introductory lessons in the game.
The youngsters were involved in a campaign to get more female youngsters on the course. Many of the girls attracted to the game came from universities around Kampala.
Makerere University, Kampala International University (KIU), Kyambogo university girls and students from Green Hill Academy took part.
Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) is behind the campaign supported by Ultimate Security, Kinyara Sugar Works, National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Allied Bank and AON.
A UGC teaching proffesional is handling the teenagers basics.
When the youngsters left the course, the senior golfers played a round of 18 holes.
Chris Mutegyeki was one of top performers at 38 stableford points.
