Ernie Els targeting No.1 ranking at Bay Hill

Ernie Els is back in business. After taking a break from playing golf tournaments, his return has seen a series of successful tournaments. Some of the tournaments he has already won since his vacation are Dubai Desert Classic and the Qatar Masters in consecutive starts and now he is looking forward towards Bay Hill Invitational. Interestingly, a win in this tournament might take him above the current top two players in the golf rankings. Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are current top two ranked players in Golf today and Ernie has a chance to overtake both if he wins and Woods finishes out of the top two.

Ernie expressed hope that he should have a good tournament at Bay Hill. Speaking to the media, Els said: “One of the goals is to win major championships, but I’d love to be No. 1. I’m as close as I’ve been for a year.” However, something more important is in line… Masters is coming up in the next three weeks, which would be the prime target for all the golf pro players.

Last year was unlucky for Els to get a shot at The Masters as he was beaten at the last moment by Phil Mickelson. Between now and the Masters, he would have another tournament to play in The Players Championship next week. All the top players would be waiting for the Masters tournament to start and it would be interesting to see who lands at the Masters as the No. 1 golf player in the world.
