Vijay Singh regains no. 1 ranking despite losing at Bay Hill

Vijay Singh has regained the no. 1 ranking in the Golf despite losing in the final round of the Bay Hill Invitational tournament. Earlier this month Tiger Woods dethroned him from the top spot regaining the no. 1 ranking. Singh would have achieved his goal of regaining the no. 1 ranking at The Honda Classic last week but for a missed short par putt in a playoff, which led to his defeat at the hands of Padraig Harrington.

Singh was quite close to winning at the Bay Hill but lost the tournament after his second shot at the 18th hole landed in water. Kenny Perry won the tournament with Graeme McDowell tying with Singh for the second place. Perry was practically gifted the tournament by that mistake from Vijay as the winner said to the media: “I thank Vijay for giving me that tournament. He has no fear. He attacks the pin on just about every hole.”

Despite the second placed position in this tournament, Singh accumulated enough points to go past Tiger and become the top ranked player in the world. Now, every eye would be on the Masters, as the top ranked players would be vying to perform well and take some valuable points and honors.

Tiger would be doubly disappointed with this tournament. He had a terrible time during the games with failure to break into 70s even once. Worse, he lost enough points to get behind Vijay in the world ranking with Ernie Els closing in. Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen complete the latest tally of top five players in the world.
