Followed up a strong rookie campaign with a successful second season, recorded two top-10s and finished inside the top-100 on the final season money list…First top-10 of the season was a solo fifth at the Nissan Open, in his first career start at Riveria. His best finish on PGA TOUR since he finished T5 at the 2003 B.C. Open…Next top-10 did not come until September, a T6 at the Deutsche Bank Championship…Managed to finish in the top-20 in four events in the second half of the season to help him secure his card for 2005-B.C. Open (T13), Buick Open (T18), Buick Championship (T13) and Chrysler Classic of Greensboro (T19).

2003: Earned TOUR card for 2004 with $872,139 in earnings as a non-member playing primarily on Sponsor Exemptions. Began the season with partial status on the Nationwide Tour…Topped TOUR in Driving Distance, averaging a record 321.4 yards, unseating John Daly, who had won eight consecutive Driving Distance titles…Playing in 24th career TOUR event as a Sponsor Exemption, finished T3 at the BellSouth Classic to earn a paycheck of $208,000. Carded hole-in-one during third round on the 131-yard second hole with a 52-degree wedge…Earned top-10 exemption into Shell Houston Open for his T3 finish at BellSouth. Posted a T2 in Houston ($356,657) and earned enough money to push him past the 150th player (Tom Scherrer) on the 2002 PGA TOUR money list and enabled him to become a Special Temporary Member of the TOUR. The top-10 finish also earned him entrance into the next week’s HP Classic of New Orleans…Posted third top-10 of season with a T9 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic…Recorded his fourth and final top-10 of the season with a T5 finish at the B.C. Amateur: Missed the cut at the 1999 Masters…1998 U.S. Amateur champion, defeating Tom McKnight, 2 and 1, in the finals at Oak Hill CC in Rochester, NY…Began college career at Oklahoma State but later transferred to Southern Methodist University. Second-team All-American as a junior at SMU…Winner of two individual titles during the 1996-97 season…Tied SMU’s all-time low 54-hole total of 208 at the Dr Pepper Intercollegiate and established a school record for low round, firing a 63 at the Golf World Invitational.
Personal
Lists playing in the 1999 Masters and winning the 1998 U.S. Amateur, with older brother Trip as his caddie, as his biggest thrills in golf…Credits his father for giving him his start in golf…Lists Fred Couples as his hero…Sister, Kelli, was a two-time U.S. Women’s Amateur champion and currently plays on the LPGA. Brother, Trip, a former All-American at Oklahoma State, was the U.S. Amateur runner-up to Tiger Woods in 1994 and remains an amateur.

Cracked $1 million in earnings for the first time in seven-year PGA TOUR career, finishing a career-best 48th on the money list…With four rounds in the 60s, finished runner-up in first start of season at the Sony Open in Hawaii, falling to Ernie Els in a three-hole playoff. Entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Els after opening 67-63-66. Paired with Els for the final round, lost the lead on the front nine but regained a share with four consecutive birdies on Nos. 9-12. Trailing Els at the 71st hole, finished birdie-birdie to shoot 66 and force the playoff, the 10th in Sony Open in Hawaii history. Earned a personal-best $518,400 with top finish of PGA TOUR career…One week later, finished T9 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Opened with a 1-over-par 73 but posted four sub-70 rounds to finish six shots out of playoff between Phil Mickelson and Skip Kendall. Recorded three eagles in the fourth round at Indian Wells CC…Finished T3 at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson, his third top-10 in first five starts of season…Shared first-round lead (with Glen Day and John Senden) and second-round lead (with Steve Pate) at Southern Farm Bureau Classic before finishing T34. After missing five cuts in first 10 starts, rounds of 64-68-66-70 good for three-way T2 at GTE Byron Nelson with Fred Couples and Hal Sutton. A week later, recorded second top-10 with solo fourth at MasterCard Colonial. 1997: Parlayed the first 36-hole Sunday in Nationwide Tour history into a three-stroke victory over R.W. Eaks at the South Carolina Classic. Finished 13th on the Nationwide Tour money list to earn first PGA TOUR card 1996: Turned professional in June. His only event prior to 1997 was T49 in 1996 Wichita Open. Amateur: Three-time All-American at University of Texas from 1993-95.

Grew up in Abilene, TX and moved to Dallas in 1985. Was a three-time all-state player and won two state championships with Highland Park High from 1986-1990…Graduated from University of Texas in 1996 with a degree in Psychology and Business Foundations. Went to work in Dallas for a commercial real-estate firm working as an analyst for office, retail and industrial acquisitions and development, as well as golf course management and development…Recently began designing golf courses in Texas…Enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Posted five top-10s and finished 16th on the 2004 Nationwide Tour money list, with $212,065. Broke through for his first career win at the Knoxville Open. Birdied the first extra hole to defeat Shane Bertsch and Justin Bolli for the $85,500 first-place check. Also lost a playoff to Bradley Hughes at the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open. Finished 54th on the Nationwide Tour in 2003, with four top-10s. Was 44th in 2002, with two top-10s including a second-place showing at the Lake Erie Charity Classic at Peek ‘n Peak Resort, one stroke behind winner Patrick Moore. Posted one of three double eagles on Tour in 2002 when his 3-iron from 234 yards found the bottom of the cup in the final round of the Gila River Golf Classic. Earned his PGA TOUR playing privileges with a T8 at the 2000 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament. Made the cut in eight of 30 TOUR events in 2001, with his only top-25 finish coming in his first event of season and seventh career start, a T15 at the Touchstone Energy Tucson Classic. Best round of the year was a 65 in the second round of the Invensys Classic at Las Vegas. Summer of 1999, shortly after finishing his college golf eligiblity, won the U.S. Public Links and the Porter Cup in back-to-back weeks. The Public Links victory gave him an automatic exemption to the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach GL and the 2000 Masters. Was planning on playing professionally in 2000 while finishing up his degree, but could not pass up a guaranteed spot in the Masters, where he eventually missed the cut. Did manage to make a 35-foot putt on his final hole at the annual Masters Par-3 Contest to advance to four-person playoff. Chris Perry beat Haas, Jay Haas (no relation) and Steve Pate on the first playoff hole. Reached the semifinals at the 1999 U.S. Amateur. Member of the 1999 U.S. Walker Cup team. Has six bothers and sisters who all play competitive golf.
